A new look for GLYPT’s Youth Theatre…

Hi, I’m Sam Miller and I am GLYPT’s new Director of Youth Theatre. My focus is to developed and refresh GLYPT’s youth theatre programme.

A Bit About Me

In terms of my background I have been a stage director and facilitator for over ten years, and specialise in teaching acting and drama techniques to young people and adults. I have also directed and taught for Birmingham School of Acting, East 15 Acting School and Identity School of Acting. However, when I’m not directing and teaching, I grow Japanese bonsai and hang out with my cat, Tarquin. If you have any questions please feel free to drop me an email on

The Future…

Since I came in to post a couple of months ago I have been in consultation with GLYPT’s young people, parents, carers and staff to work out how things are in terms of our Youth Theatre, and what changes could or should happen to make the programme more exciting…

Teeny Tiny Theatre is back!

The first improvement we have made is to bring back Teeny Tiny Theatre for ages 2-4 (pre-school, nursery & reception). This group will be a creative session where grown-ups and children interact together in a playful and fun environment. Using drama, movement, singing, and storytelling, the sessions will encourage social interaction through role-play and creative expression. This class is designed to help children develop their confidence and self-expression through creative play with their grown up– all while having a huge amount of fun!

Sessions will start on Saturday 10th September at The Tramshed in Woolwich 10-11am.

New Youth Theatre Age Ranges

The second change I’ve made is to adjust the age ranges of our Youth Theatres. We have condensed groups in to three: Junior for ages 5-7 (school years 1 & 2); Middle for ages 8-12 (school years 3 – 6) and Senior for ages 12+ (school years 7+).

I will be leading the senior groups both in Woolwich and Downham focusing on professional drama skills and creativity. The idea is to equip members so you can perform through-out the year and then, of you want to, go on to join Progression (for ages 16-30).

I have moved our tutors around to mix styles and techniques up and compliment the ages of the younger groups. I will be overseeing all youth theatre groups to make sure the standard is kept high and sessions are fun but also challenging.

Another of my aims is too create more performance opportunities for not just the senior group but all age groups so they have something to work towards and showcase throughout the year.

New Youth Theatre Days and Times

Finally, I have decided to make Saturdays ‘Youth Theatre Day’ at our Woolwich venue: The Tramshed. All four of the Greenwich Youth Theatre will now be on Saturdays. We understand that this isn’t convenient for all families, but after lots of consultation with members and thought we felt it was tidier and gives us the opportunity to create a great flow between age groups.

See the new schedule below:

Youth Theatre at The Tramshed, Woolwich starting Saturday 10th Sept 16

Ages 2 to 4 Teeny Tiny Theatre Saturdays

Youth Theatre at The Green Man, Downham

Our Youth Theatre groups in Downham will stay after school at The Green Man on the Bromley Road. Again the age ranges have been adjusted to allow us to bring back a younger age range for 5-7 year olds.

Ages 5 to 7 Junior Youth Theatre Mondays
4:00 – 5:15pm

Ages 8 to 12 Middle Youth Theatre Mondays

Quite simply the cost for 10 week term will stay the same for the time being: £40 per member for a full 10 week term. We never want the cost to be a barrier to people joining so if you are in receipt of benefits you can a discounted rate of £15, (we will need to see proof of this at the start if each term).
