FUTURE YOUNG PEOPLE'S THEATRE PRODUCTIONS

Touring
to Years 7 & 8 in May - July 2008
Supported by Safer London Foundation
The Inquiry is a participatory piece of theatre created to explore issues of young people engaging in gang culture and choosing to carry weapons, specifically guns and knives.
The project was successfully piloted to 7 schools in Camden, Haringey, Islington, Greenwich and Lewisham for two weeks in November 2007
The 90-minute programme of performance & workshop includes:
A 40-minute performance by two professional actors, presented in the style of a day time chat show. The audience will meet a series of characters linked to gun or knife crime. Characters include a personification of the Gun and the Knife, a young person at risk of gang involvement, the mother of a victim, a police woman, a ‘celebrity’ rap artist, and a reformed gang member and ex-con.
50-minute workshop & discussion.
The students join the actors and take ‘the stage’ to improvise scenes. This section of the programme uses Forum theatre techniques and encourages students to: Question the characters; Challenge the stereotypes presented; Find alternative courses of action for key protagonists to take.
Education Resource Pack which includes background information and follow up activities.
The Inquiry aims to:
- Empower young people to discuss and explore issues that are hard to embrace amongst their peers;
- Giving teachers a platform for discussing further these and related issues with students;
- Encourage positive approaches to peer learning and opinion sharing;
- Dispel the myth that the carrying of dangerous weapons is ‘cool.’

We will be re-touring our successful production of Mud City
to Years 5 & 6, in the Autumn 2008
