Meadowgate "Routes" Project
This is an innovative and award-winning project, working in Meadowgate School, and more specifically on the school buses, with young people with severe complex and enduring special educational needs. Young people take part in creative workshops with professional artists on their bus journeys to and from school.
What the students think of it...
"Well I’ve learnt to make songs up, and draw stuff, and lots of stuff."
"We have something to do instead of just waiting around being bored."
"Yeah, because when your on the bus on the way home it gets quite boring. The thing is, because you’d be sitting there for like 45 minutes and its quite long, and you just need something to do. Me and my brother really like doing the puppets, it’s like when we do the puppets, we’re not bored anymore"
What the teachers think of it...
"It’s not wasting their time […] Kind of continues their learning and school day, as well as keeping them occupied"
"They’re always so enthusiastic when we come down to the hall. When they’re calling out to the buses they can’t wait to invite you down. So they’re obviously enjoying it." |
